Immaginario Sexy is a five volume series (plus a couple of supplemental volumes) that no serious fumetti collector should be without. This series of books, published in Italy by Mencaroni Editore, catalogs every issue of 1970's adult comics published by Erregi, Edifumetto and Ediperiodici. Every issue is represented by thumbnail cover scans of varying sizes and include detailed information about publication, artists and writers. Just be warned. I have found numerous errors in the cover art attributions. I suspect there might be just as many errors in other aspects of the cataloguing. So use the information as a general guide, not as gospel. If you have a fumetti cover and want to identify the artist you might consider contacting an Italian collector or gallery. But even the Italian collectors and galleries frequently mis-identify fumetti cover art. Your best bet is to ask someone who specializes in this art, personally knows the artists and has an eye for recognizing their specific styles. That person is Mark Alfrey.

In its heyday fumetti artists had no time to set up model shoots. They were being asked to produce two or three covers every week. Often they would rely on images found in books and magazines to speed up the process.
